Christmas is such a magical time but as we all know too well, it can sometimes seem a little stressful at times. Trying to get everything ready for the big day can leave you feeling a little frazzled and in need of a much-deserved break. Many of us take that time to book a few days away from it all but you really don’t need to go too far afield to feel like you’ve had a quality break. In fact, having some time off and even taking the opportunity to stay in some luxury accommodation can make you appreciate what’s around you and leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the year ahead.
If like me you are planning on staying in the UK this Christmas, you’ll want to know what to get up to on your time off and what better place to spend your time off than in London. There really is what seems to be an endless stream of exciting things to see and do, especially around Christmas time. I’ve rounded up my top picks of what to get up to over the Christmas period.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
Hyde Park is where it’s all happening this Christmas. You will easily spend the day at the Winter Wonderland sampling the best of the food and drink on offer as well walking around the stalls, picking up some handmade treats to take home. Why not try your best figure 8 at the ice rink? There is something for all ages here.
Stay in luxury accommodation
There really is something special about staying in a hotel for a few days. You can take time to unwind, relax and enjoy yourself without thinking of everything that needs to be done at home. But when it comes to choosing a hotel in London, you’re spoiled for choice. One of my favourite areas to stay at this time of year is Kensington. Surrounded by Victorian buildings, boutiques and antique stores, it makes you feel like you’re in a Christmas of Dickens times. Fraser Suites on Queen’s Gate Gardens has become one of my most recommended. The serviced studio apartments there have a level of luxury that is second to none.
Take in a West End show
There is something for everyone when it comes to shows in the West End. But if you are looking for a show that has a little of everything, you should consider seeing The Best of the West End. An amazing collection of some of the greatest music from stage & screen, with classic songs from Les Miserables, Mamma Mia, The Greatest Show, A Star is Born, Aladdin, Hairspray, The Phantom of the Opera and many more.
Alternatively, if you’re looking for something that has a real Christmas vibe to it, you should see The Nutcracker. The Royal Albert Hall are hosts to the Birmingham Royal Ballet’s world-class dancers and orchestra for their production of this Christmas classic. Expect to see gorgeous period costumes, stunning lighting, and dazzling projections. You can find ticket info here.
Whatever you choose to get up to over the festive period, be sure to take some time out for yourself to relax and enjoy it.
